Interview with best-selling author cathy cassidy
OK, so I emailed Cathy with some questions and she answered!
Here is the interview:
1. What Inspires you to write?
Here is the interview:
1. What Inspires you to write?
Life, I guess… I love creating characters and stories and almost anything can spark off an idea. I just love writing!
2. When you were writing cherry crush did you have any idea that Jake would be a character?
No, he was a surprise! It was only as I got further into the series that I realised it would be very challenging to finish off the story in just five books. I also knew that something major had to happen to bring Honey back into the heart of the family… and this was it!
3. how do you come up with titles?
The titles come first… I have had the titles since the start of the series, pretty much. Each title had to be the name of one of Paddy's truffles and also include the name of the character telling the story, so I knew I had to get them right at the outset!
4. Are there any new authors that have grasped your interest?
Wow, loads! Currently, I am a big fan of Lara Williamson, check out her book, 'A Boy Called Hope'; I loved Ruth Fitzgerald's 'Emily Sparkes & the Friendship Fiasco' too; and I adored the YA book 'All the Bright Places' by Jennifer Niven, but be warned, it's so, so sad!
5. What are your current projects?
There's a top secret non-fiction book linked to the Chocolate Box Girls series, coming out in June - I absolutely love it and think my readers will too!
6. Name one entity that you feel supported you outside of family members.
Hmmm, that's hard. As a child, my dad was my biggest supporter and as an adult it'd be my husband… but I did have a friend a while ago who nagged and pushed me to write. Thanks to her 'tough-love' approach, I finished my first book, Dizzy… and the rest is history!
7. If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
No, overall I am happy with Looking Glass Girl...
8. is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
Sticking to a deadline! I used to be so good at that, but these days I always overrun… not enough hours in the day or days in the week!
9.What was the hardest part of writing your book?
I think having the persistence to keep on going day after day is hard sometimes. There will always be days when you'd rather not bother, but you have to keep going anyway!
10. What tips would you give to people who want to be writers?
* Write every day, even if it's just a little.
* Write about the things you care about - the passion will show in your work.
* Write for YOU - not because school tells you to!
* Don't be afraid to write 'in the style of' a fave author - you can learn a lot about style and narrative this way.
* Write in a journal or start a school magazine - anything you can do to get practice helps!
Check out Cathy on her Website and definitely read her books!

She was incredibly round and incredibly thin.
